Microsoft Word has been my main platform for any essays,
projects, etc. As I aged, my knowledge for Microsoft Word grew. I learned
several tricks to effectively craft essays in the appropriate style such as
MLA, APA, and so on. I have a little experience with Google Docs, but I feel
most comfortable using Microsoft Word.
Each standard, of course, is important, however the two that
stood out to me the most were learner and designer. Without constant learning,
an educator cannot grow and adapt. This would eventually be hurtful for not
only the teacher but the students. As an educator, you need to understand that
not all students learn the same. The designer standard emphasizes the fact that
teachers need to be able to come up with effective learning strategies that
will improve the knowledge of each student.
Using the term "Digital Native" to describe
today's youth is appropriate. Digital native refers to a generation that grew
up in the age of technology and are quicker and more qualified to pick up on
new technologies. However, it can make learning challenging for younger
students that have a "digital immigrant" teacher. For example, I have been in classrooms
recently where the students have to explain technologies, like zoom, to the
older teachers. This can result in less class time or a learning experience
that is not as useful as it could be. I'm not sure if the next generation will
have the same beliefs as I do about the older generations. I say that because,
unlike the generation before me, we grew up with technology and are more easily
adaptable. But only time will tell!
